Its a typical scam that started by sellers being too nice and evolved into a scam into seeing how much a buyer can the item at a discount. There was nothing wrong with the item, he wanted to see what he could get away with. Since nothing would happen to the asshole with ebay and paypal he went ahead and did it. He'll do it time and time again until legal action is taken agains the asshole.
