This buyer, abetted by PayPal and eBay, has effectively lowered his bid price by $100.00 on a watch I sold him, without justification whatsoever. He has purported damage to the balance wheel in the movement of this watch and three times asked for non-specific reparation to avoid damaging my reputation and to keep peace, sending NO photographs or documentation of any damage. The balance wheel and spring are shown undamaged in the listing and the movement WAS described as intermittent and needing cleaning. The watch package was left at a reception desk and it was a full two weeks before the buyer made first contact with us. We could not nor should have honored these requests for unknown amounts for undocumented damage. Knowing how to use PayPal's flawed and coercive system, the buyer today filed a dispute for a $100.00 refund. PayPal, upon the mere word of this buyer, immediately took the ENTIRE $838.00 purchase price with shipping from my account! My choice was to pay the $100.00 or risk losing yet another $738.00. Meanwhile, the watch is GONE and PayPal has in effect threatened me with being out BOTH my merchandise AND $838.00 unless I comply with this buyer's and PayPal's demand note. I believe this buyer uses this tact too often. And why wouldn't he? PayPal provides an excellent assist to this type of criminal behavior, as they do not require any documentation whatsoever before confiscating customer's funds and I was even told today that they don't accept photographs in disputes. As PayPal receives an interest float on any funds they can encourage buyers to dispute, this represents a conflict of interest in these matters and explains clearly it's usefulness. Here is an excellent example. I have just now paid this $100.00 ransom/tuition to PayPal. However, for that sum, PayPal and eBay will forfeit all of my future business AND that of anyone else I can warn. In speaking to other sellers, many avoid PayPal. Is it any wonder? PayPal is not about to curb this rampant abuse due to that it makes A LOT of money pinching sellers while they allegedly "mediate". eBay is culpable as well, as there is technology to monitor this kind of activity on the site and curb frequent defrauders. In addition, when you choose to report a buyer to eBay, the ability to leave negative feedback goes away.
