Now selling 2005 Acura for $800. Wants me to go on eBay and buy. This time her daughter died. Bad Karma.

Listed under a different FB name a 2008 Lexus RX350 for $1,200 on Facebook marketplace on January 10, 2022. When emailed for more information sent pictures and said her son died and reason for selling, used brendapotts01@comcast.net and suggested using eBay to do the transaction. Glad I googled her name and saw these previous posts. Scammer likely used son's "death" as reasoning for selling.

Same as above, Lexus. Email seemed a little suspect, so I started researching and found these posts. I don't get how these scams work, but I'm staying away. Seemed too good to be true. And a son's death??? That's truly a pathetic ruse. Sickening.

said her son died 5 months ago at age 26. tried to sell acura tl type s 2007 for 1000 on facebook marketplace. Instead of dealing through there though, they insisted on moving it to ebay. i didnt go any further because ebay is sketchy asf for buying cars. when using facebook marketplace, i found it weird that she posted many posts of the same car in many different areas ranging from ca to tennessee.

I was also interested in the Acura, but found it very suspicious that the price was only 1K for a car in such good condition. Wanting the move the transaction to EBAY made no sense. Hope noone falls for this.

Came looking to see how true this was. Thank you guys for posting. I got the same sob story then directed to eBay. Always good to do your research. I feel so violated emotionally.

Saying the reason for selling so cheap is "because my husband died 3 months ago"

Stay away from Facebook marketplace when there are no multiple pages of pictures. Scammers usually "collage" pictures together or just have one picture. FBM scams most always have a on vacation notice, I'm selling for my (Insert relative here) or always have a Gmail account. Prices are usually under $1200 for Honda, Toyota, Acura and trucks.

We called the number on the ebay information. They returned call and when I asked questions about legitimacy, the man hung up.

Sadly my dad fell for the scam because he wanted a gift for my mom’s 50th bday. I am trying to see if there was something I could do about it but nothing so far. Her name was also Brenda Potts and my dad sent her/him $1800 for a $800 Chevy Tahoe.

My father just got scammed by this lady under the name of Brenda Renee selling a 2003 Chevy Tahoe 4x4. Told him to pull a bond and pay for vehicle on eBay and would receive vehicle in 3-4 days.

Email address is brenda.potts73@gmail.com. Contacted “her” about 90 minutes ago and got the same story about husband dying (by heart attack). The listings seem to have been removed now. Thank you to all who posted!

Says she moved to her hometown of Helena, Montana for new job and she’s using eBay: she won’t get paid til after 5 days of my inspection period, which will commence within 3 days, when I receive the vehicle, which is already at the shipping company, ready to ship (for free, mind you!!) to me as soon as I send my full name, full address & phone # to register me as the buyer. After which, I’ll receive an email from eBay confirming it’s a legitimate seller and listing the terms & conditions. Glad I saw this when I researched. But what can be done with the information requested?? It’s all public info- I guess it’s just to make it seem more legitimate???

It's not the information, it's when she/he sends you an invoice that looks like it comes from eBay, using eBay gift cards from your local store. Therein lies the scam.

We also benefit of free shipping, it will be delivered to your address within 3 days and you have a 5 days inspection period to test and inspect it. Please provide me your full name, full address and a phone# where you can be reached so I can register you as the buyer and after that eBay will send you an email with the terms and conditions, with no obligation on buying it and also they will confirm the fact that the transaction is conducted through them and I'm a legitimate seller. This person try to sell it to me for $600. Really $600 for a truck and that condition not stupid

Same here, with the 2016 Winnebago at a ridiculously low price offered on Facebook Marketplace. Knew it had to be a scam. As soon as I put the email in it brought me here. That Winne is listed on a hundred websites for sale. Her 'brother' Gurpreet Singh is offering it up for her. I didn't take the offer seriously and figured it was a bait and switch, but now I know it's just a total scam.
