Details: | Tried to run a scam. This appears to be a new type of eBay scam. Buyer placed order. Waited until product shipped. As soon as the product shipped, buyer sends message claiming the order was the result of fraud and that we, the seller, needed to immediately contact the shipping carrier, US Postal Service in this case, and have the package re-routed back to us. Note, eBay never contacted us to report the buyer having initiiated a fraud case. The scam works if the seller routes the package back. The buyer then files a claim with eBay for package not received, eBay issues refund to buyer and claws back from seller. At the same time, buyer files a fraud case with their credit card company, initiating a chargeback through PayPal. Because there is no proof the package was delivered to the proper address, the credit card company and PayPal uphold the chargeback and the sellers PayPal account is deducted the purchase amount, shipping AND slapped with a chargeback fee. Due to a loophole the seller gets double charged because the Chargeback from the credit card company is in addition to the refund deducted by eBay. It just so happens that we fell victim to this scam before on this exact same product, so when we saw the message come through from this buyer, we new exactly what he was trying to pull. We refused to re-route the package and the buyer became what I would consider apoplectic. When the buyer tried to initiate a return, we contacted eBay, explained the situation, provided photographs of the item in sealed manufacturers package, serial number and packaging (this was a high value item, so we photograph everything before shipping). To its credit eBay cancelled the buyers return request and stuck the buyer with the product that he never wanted in the first place. Buyer left false negative feedback in retaliation. Lesson: NEVER agree to re-route a package or pull it from shipment once you have printed the shipping label! More likely than not, you’ll get screwed! |

Glad to see that the seller (you) got double charged and lost money on this. Next time check and respond to messages from both the buyer AND ebay. Ebay absolutely opened a fraud case and directed you to not ship the item. You had adequate time to cancel this order and yet still shipped it. Package was never asked to be re-routed, it was asked to be canceled.
