File a police report. Although you may not think it will help you now, it will for someone else. Scumbags like this have a compulsion to keep ripping people off so it never stops at just one. Find the police department non-emergency # and file it and get a police report #. Have all the info with you. Also, find his employer/ landlord and report this to them.
