Details: | It all started when I listed two chairs for sale on Facebook Marketplace. They were in good condition, and I was hoping to make a quick sale. Soon enough, I received a message from a woman interested in buying them. We agreed on a price, and she arranged to come by my house to pick them up. The day of the transaction arrived, and the woman showed up on time. She seemed pleasant enough at first, but as we got down to business, things took a strange turn. She insisted that she had already sent the money through the app, but I hadn't received any notification or confirmation. I checked my account multiple times, but there was no sign of her payment. Despite my growing doubts, I didn't want to seem rude or untrusting. However, her behavior was becoming increasingly unsettling. She kept asking if there was anything else in the house that I might be selling. We decided it was best to let her take the chairs and leave, hoping that it was just a delay in the app and not something more sinister. After she left, I immediately tried to follow up through Facebook messages. She kept claiming that she had paid and even sent a screenshot as proof. However, it was clearly fake and didn't represent any legitimate transaction. I confronted her, mentioning that this seemed like a scam. From that point on, she stopped responding altogether. Before she left, I had the presence of mind to request her phone number, which she provided. The phone number, her Facebook photo, and her appearance all matched, indicating she was a real person. However, the fact that she kept looking around my house and her evasive behavior made us feel unsafe. Now, we are left hoping that this situation can be resolved and that others won't fall victim to her deceit. We reported the incident to Facebook, providing all the details we could, and are considering other steps to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else. The whole experience has left us wary and more cautious about future transactions. |
