Details: | Purchased a small handgun safe from us.
Then started a return later under the claim it was an "accidental purchase." We have a 30 day return policy, so that part wasn't even an issue.
Problem started when I received the return; it had clearly been opened and used/handled enough new marks/staining was on it, more annoyingly a type of glue on the number pad. He put the smallest amount of effort possible into repacking the item. The shipping box wasn't taped fully closed *at all*. Clear gapping and openings on the sides of the box. Again, things I could let go if that was where it ended.
But of course, he had tossed a used cigarette butt into the box. So now everything reeks of burnt tobacco ash. *Maybe* the cigarette butt had somehow wiggled it's way in through one of the open gaps of the box. Or maybe he put in in to be a jerk. Neither circumstance for it being there were acceptable, but still, I could have let this go-- except, now I realized he had sent the safe back to us *without* the safe key.... -_-;
So I message the buyer, elaborate on my concerns, and tell him if he wants the full refund, he will need to send me the safe key. Even at this point, he hasn't contacted me or responded to me or communicated with me at all beyond the Ebay return services, within which he had extended his lie-- The lie that he had "accidentally ordered" the safe had now become "It was missing a mounting bracket" (this gun safe does not come with a mounting bracket, I had even taken a picture of the box showing the included contents-- none of which mentioned a mounting bracket), *and* he made the additional false claim that the biometric fingerprint access code or master fingerprint had already been added to the safe, and that he couldn't remove it. Again, I disproved this by deleting and clearing the stored fingerprint access recorded in the safe with a few simple steps involving the master code, which I had given him, and he could have done as well, if he had taken the time to simply google it.
So at this point he was up to three lies, plus having sent back the safe not only incomplete, but in some of the worse packing I've ever seen. There's the possibility his poor packing caused the key to get lost in shipping-- still not an acceptable outcome. So as a result, I submitted the SMALLEST refund which was only 50% of the total purchase, not including shipping, and as I expected, he responded by immediately opening up a case against me.
I am totally chill at this point, however, as I've already thoroughly documented everything through pictures, and all the unanswered messages I've sent him. Even his lies are exposed through simple photography. The case closed so fast, I didn't even notice he'd opened the case to begin with until I got the message the case had been closed.
They unfortunately gave him the rest of the refund-- but it was out of Ebay's pocket, not ours. They had, as I had expected, ruled that I was not at fault.
Still, figured he deserves a shout out for being a toxic buyer; as fair warning to those who are in the position of having to deal with him-- or his "friends" who apparently shop for him.
